Exercise 1E [A3]
Q4- 7
4) Julia scored 55, 89 and x marks for three English tests.
To score distinction, her average mark must be at least
75 marks.
a) Form an inequality in x
b) Solve the inequality
c) Hence, state the minimum mark that Julia must score
For the last English test in order to score a distinction.
5) Jane and Mary intend to start up a push-cart business
at a shopping centre. They decided that the start-up
capital should not be more than $50 000 and that Mary
will put in $8 000 more than Jane. Find the maximum amount
that Jane can invest.
6) The west zone mathematics competition consists of 40
multiple-choice questions. 5 marks is awarded for a correct
answer while 1 mark is deducted for a wrong answer. No marks are awarded or deducted for questions not
attempted.
A student skipped 6 questions and scored at least 100 marks.
Find the maximum number of wrong answers he gave.
